Next New

New Media can be defined as a way of mass communicating with the use of the internet. It can take many forms with examples including computer games, social media apps and other forms of multimedia. After brainstorming a bit, I thought of a form of new media that I feel can prove to be very beneficial and can soon be the next big thing. Right now, through our banking apps, we can directly send someone with the same bank money. (Ex. Chase Quickpay). If we want to send someone money with a different bank, (Ex. Chase to Citi) we run into a problem and would have to use a third-party service such as Venmo or the Cash App. But wait, what if the other person doesn’t have the third-party app such as Venmo or Cash app. Then the individual would have to install the extra app and create a new account. Personally, I feel seamless banking solutions such as having the ability to send someone money with a different banking provider directly through your banking app over a secured network will be the next breakthrough within the Banking Sector. This can be considered a form of new media as this involves a form of mass communication over a network.

  1. That would make my life so much easier! I faced the same problem yesterday. My friend had to go through so many steps to transfer money to my account from the different banks. I was thinking, how come the banking system hasn't been improved so well, that we don't have to waste our time on little things like this. I also see it coming any time soon, let's see which bank takes the initiative. Thanks for sharing your interesting idea.

  2. I think your idea is interesting as far as the transferring money is concerned. I always have to face the same issue when I have to transfer money beside quick pay. I have to manually stand in line and fill out the deposit slip which I think is so needless in today's world. Thanks for bringing up this idea.

  3. Hey Gurminder- I totally agree. I personally like using Chase Quickpay and it's something most New Yorkers use since Chase is apparent throughout the city. However, when my friends visit from other states, other banks like Wells Fargo or PNC Bank are their main banks, so I'd have to pay them back through Venmo, which to me is a little annoying. Sending money to those with other banks within the app would make life much easier!

  4. I've even seen people scroll down Venmo feeds as a new social media kinda esque thing, where each venmo story tells something different (aside from the rampant usage of the eggplant emoji in situations where im sure they don't apply, or at least for my sake, they don't apply).
